For International Volunteer Day, Girls Inc. celebrates the invaluable contributions of our volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to inspiring our smart, strong, and bold girls. These individuals help girls to  explore new opportunities, break barriers, and lead with confidence. 

Our Brand Ambassadors share their personal stories of how volunteering has shaped their own growth, helped their self-esteem, and strengthened their leadership. Their reflections highlight the incredible difference that selfless volunteers make in creating a supportive, inspiring environment for the new generation of leaders.

Sloan is a participant of Girls Inc. of Sarasota who has experienced firsthand the power of giving back through volunteering and is now returning the kindness she once received.

Every year Girls Inc. of Sarasota receives funding from a local donor to purchase $100 of Christmas presents for every family on scholarship, called “Project Santa.” As a staff member, I had the chance to volunteer at this event for the past two years. The girls write their lists to Santa, and then we take these lists to Target. Target partners with us by dedicating three checkout lanes exclusively for Girls Inc. volunteers, ensuring that every child receives a gift Christmas morning. After my first time volunteering at “Project Santa,” I realized that only a few years ago I was one of the girls being shopped for, and it was Girls Inc. that had provided me with gifts for many Christmases. It was a full-circle moment for me, filling me with gratitude and encouraging me to continue giving back so that other girls could receive the same kindness I had at their age. This event, along with countless other volunteer opportunities, allow for me to be more engaged in my community and give back to the program that has given so much to me! 

Avree is a participant of Girls Inc. of the Pacific Northwest who is giving back to the community that has supported her by volunteering and encouraging others to do the same.

After being involved in a community that has poured so much into me, I want to be able to return the favor. My community, and Girls Inc. specifically, have provided me with opportunities to improve my leadership, empathy, and passion, as well as teaching me how to get involved in my community in fun ways that make a meaningful statement about social issues. Volunteering is  such a rewarding experience and I would encourage everyone to find at least one thing they love and turn that into a volunteer opportunity.
