How Girls Inc. Mentors Build the New Generation of Leaders
March is Women’s History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the remarkable achievements, resilience, and contributions of women throughout history. It’s a month that reminds us of the importance of inspiring young girls to dream big, and lead with confidence. At Girls Inc., we celebrate not only the inspirational trailblazing women who have shaped our world, but also the amazing staff members who make a difference every day helping build a new generation of girl leaders. In honor of Women’s History Month, we asked our Brand Ambassadors, Skye and Mia, to share how the Girls Inc. staff has positively impacted their lives.
Skye, who has been with Girls Inc. of Orange County for seven years, has had the privilege of being supported by many powerful women within the organization. She reflects, “The mentors at Girls Inc. understood and cared for me when I was at my lowest. Even now, as a high school junior, I still stay connected with the staff who have helped me along the way.”
One mentor who has made a lasting impact on Skye’s life is Ms. Laura Chavez. Laura played a key role in shaping Sky into the strong, smart, and bold individual she is today. She supported Skye academically, encouraged her to take on new challenges, and showed up for her when it mattered most.
“Ms. Laura helped me feel strong by coaching me through the Girls Inc. scholarship program. She made me feel smart by supporting my writing and offering guidance to improve my essay. And she helped me feel bold by attending my middle school ceremony when I won the 8th Grade National Scholarship,” Skye shares.
Skye adds, “At Girls Inc., mentors are there for both your wins and your losses. They will always cheer you on, which is why they’ve made such a profound impact on my life.” Skye’s experience is shared by many other girls in the program.
Mia, who has formed lifelong connections with her mentors at Girls Inc. San Antonio, echoes this sentiment. “My mentors have been with me almost every step of the way. They’re always in my corner. If I’m facing personal challenges, they listen, no matter how many times I bring up the same issue.”
Beyond offering a listening ear, Mia values the advice and encouragement she receives. “The staff is always welcoming and ready to help every girl who walks through their doors. I always feel at home at Girls Inc. of San Antonio.”
The support of our dedicated mentors makes a lasting difference in the lives of the girls we serve. Whether it’s pushing them to reach their academic potential, celebrating their victories, or offering a listening ear in tough times, the women of Girls Inc. are committed to inspiring the new generation of leaders.
