After all, a girl is not an object that one can treat and manipulate like a puppet, a girl is someone who needs love, kindness, and someone who understands them.
GIRLS INCORPORATED AND THE HOME DEPOT ANNOUNCE TOP TWENTY WINNERS OF PROJECT DOLLHOUSE
Teams honored at "Celebrating Achievement" Auction Gala
New York City, New York (February 9, 2006) Project Dollhouse, a community partnership between Girls Inc. and The Home Depot, engaged hundreds of Girls Inc. members from around the country in a contest to construct and decorate dollhouses. Girls Inc. is a national organization that inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and boldSM.
Last fall, approximately 700 Girls Inc. participants ages 5 to 18 built houses simultaneously at 50 of The Home Depot stores nationwide. Twenty teams, recognized for creating the best theme, design, and construction, will attend the "Celebrating Achievement" award ceremony and live charity auction of their dollhouse in Atlanta, Georgia on February 18 at the Center for Puppetry Arts. The winning teams hail from Georgia, California, Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida, Texas, and Massachusetts.
Dollhouses not featured in the live charity auction will be available on eBay beginning February 13 at www.ebay.com/dollhouse. Managed by Kompolt, the online auction agency responsible for creating promotional and charitable auctions for companies and non-profits, the dollhouses will be listed through eBay Giving Works, the dedicated program for charity listings on eBay.
All proceeds benefit Girls Inc., and a number of the houses will be donated to shelters, children's hospitals, and other non-profit organizations.
At Girls Inc., girls participate in programs and benefit from opportunities that increase their knowledge and build self-esteem. Project Dollhouse added a new dimension to what girls experience everyday at their local centers, by emphasizing teamwork, project management, and leadership skills.
More than 200 associates of The Home Depot volunteered 1,500 hours of their time for this initiative.
