After all, a girl is not an object that one can treat and manipulate like a puppet, a girl is someone who needs love, kindness, and someone who understands them.
Girls Inc. Girls’ Rights Week 2010 runs from May 3 – May 7 and focuses on girls promoting positive spaces for physical activity as part of their and their communities’ greater health and wellbeing. An integral part of the week is the opportunity for Girls Inc. National Scholars to travel to Washington, D.C. to inform policy makers about issues and legislation vital to girls and their lives today.
Girls Inc. Girls’ Rights Week is an annual celebration of girls advocating for their rights and positive change in the world. Girls Inc. Girls’ Rights Week is inspired by the Girls Inc. Girls’ Bill of Rights
SM
, six statements that help girls envision a healthy, successful future and an equitable society. They serve as an expression of the organization’s values and form the guiding principles of its public policy work.
This year, Girls Inc. girls across the U.S. are participating in The Girls Inc. Healthy Girls, Healthy Communities Mapping Project. Girls ages 6-18 are examining their neighborhoods, schools, towns, and counties to identify opportunities, barriers, and solutions around physical activity. Stay tuned for their findings.
Girls Inc. Healthy Girls, Healthy Communities draws inspiration from Girls Inc. Mind+BodySM, an initiative which helps give girls the knowledge, skills, and attitude required to form and maintain a healthy, positive sense of self. Girls Inc. Mind+BodySM focuses on four areas: physical activity, nutrition, body image, and stress.
