I am strong because I can lift my own weight. I am smart not just because I get As. I am bold because I am not afraid to stick up for my rights.
Denai came to Girls Inc. when she was five years old, where the staff she met took the time to listen, boost her confidence, and channel her intelligence into educational activities. While participating in unique Girls Inc. activities like Operation SMART, Denai discovered a love of science and math. She stayed with Girls Inc. through her high school graduation in 2010 when she became a National Scholarship recipient.
Today, Denai is studying biology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She was also recently selected for the University's pre-admission Health Sciences program, which awards full tuition scholarships to students and guaranteed admission to the University of Nebraska Medical Center upon completion of their undergraduate work.
Thanks to the encouragement and the eye-opening experiences she received at Girls Inc., Denai is on her way to changing the ratio of women of color in STEM fields and making a difference in underserved communities.
