Girls Inc. began a multi-year initiative to objectively measure impact — the lasting difference we make in the lives of the girls we serve. In partnership with outside youth development evaluation experts Dr. Kristin Moore and Isaac Castillo from Child Trends, and Michael Bailin, we developed measures to ensure we are helping girls grow up healthy, educated, and independent. We also defined the six essentials, the distinctive characteristics of the Girls Inc. programming experience that lead to the desired outcomes for girls. An investment from Lilly Endowment and an anonymous donor supported work leading to the rollout of a network-wide system that will track results.

Girls Inc. changed my life. I’ve learned to define myself by my achievements and become the first in my family to go to college.

Girls Inc. has taught me and many other girls that we can be successful in life and that we are special and have worth... I am the result of a teen pregnancy and my goal is to defy history.
