Spotlight

Sonia In Charge

For Sonia, joining Girls Inc. was the first step in learning about entrepreneurship and the importance of being financially independent. Growing up, Sonia was often limited in the extracurricular activities she could participate in after school. Her parents were supportive, but strict and concerned about her being away from her family and their neighborhood. However,  Sonia was able to attend Girls Inc. and participate in a business and entrepreneurship summit called Girls In Charge. The experience proved to be life-changing and set her on a path that made her family proud. Through Girls In Charge, Sonia learned to design business plans, mentor younger girls, and present ideas in impactful ways. Sonia also traveled away from home for the first time, met other Girls Inc. girls on a college campus, and began to see how business and entrepreneurship could play a critical role in her future.

Passionate about business and problem-solving, today Sonia is preparing to study business and math in college in her home state of Texas. Sonia is a 2015 Girls Inc. National Scholar, and a $20,000 scholarship recipient. Congratulations, Sonia!
